Shell was looking for a way to make science and energy relevant to millennials. The idea had to be faithful to Shell’s #makethefuture initiative and highlight how the company is investing in new innovative ways of generating energy.
Having worked on Shell in the past, I knew about Pavegen technology and had always wanted to use it to power something with human energy.
Sport is intrinsically linked to human energy especially in Brazil where football is a way of life. In the favelas however, access to the grid can be problematic. Creating a Pavegen football pitch powered by players’ footsteps allowing them to play into the night was the perfect fit.
